Dambovicioarei Defile
Dambovicioarei Defile is a genuine canion with 200 meters high steep walls, that lies on several kilometers along Dambovicioara river.
Dambovicioarei Defileis an atraction also because it is part of National Park Piatra Craiului (that also includes Piatra Craiului Massif, Dambovitei Defile and Ghimbavului Defile). Around 1000 species of plants can be found here and many of them are protected by the law (more than half of the protected species from Romania can be found here).
Amongst these there are: lion’s foot, the yellow gentian, the lad’s blood, the yew tree, the white ivy and Piatra Craiului carnation, a protected species that cannot be found anywhere else worldwide.
The area is the biggest junction of defiles in the country (more than 20) and is famous for its spectacular views and the numerous specific cave landscape elements: more than 50 caves, cavities, arches or underground waters.
The most famous of these all is Dambovicioara Cave.
